City of Peoria, Arizona Approves Project Design Consultants’ Plan for Next Evolution of Sports Complex Area Development

SAN DIEGO, Calif., August 9, 2010 — For the past 18 months, Project Design Consultants (PDC) has been engaged by the City of Peoria, Arizona to create a new vision for the 570 acres of land anchored by the spring training facilities for the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners. The vast majority of the site is currently developed.

On July 6, 2010, the Peoria City Council unanimously approved the Peoria Sports Complex Urban Design Plan that was prepared and led by Project Design Consultants. A primary goal of the plan was to enhance the area located southeast of Loop 101 and Bell Road as a pedestrian-focused mixed-use destination and position this area of the city for its next successful evolution.

The resulting plan for redevelopment and new development is based on 18 months of extensive stakeholder outreach, creation of urban and environmental design solutions, and development of implementation strategies. The key design components of the plan include the development of an entertainment village located southwest of the Peoria stadium, creation of a new public plaza, design and implementation of a promenade linking a possible future hotel site to the stadium, and laying the groundwork for a new mixed-use, higher intensity form of development.
